| The Professor Henry
Jones Whip…
Like most people, I was convinced, that a David Morgan style
whip *The Indy Whip* has to have lead in the handle. And all
the whips that style I cracked (yes - I had a DM whip from
1997) had lead. One day I was talking to Tony about the possibility
of creating an Indiana Jones style whip for the WBSR.
It was never the idea to create one more copy of that DM
pattern. The idea was to interpret that style. And so the
“Professor Henry Jones Whip” came to life.
The unique fact about this whip is it’s made from kangaroo
hide. Entirely. Lots of whipmakers offer whips made from kangaroo
hide, but the bolsters are from cowhide. Cowhide doesn’t
affect the performance. but cowhide is much cheaper than kangaroo.
This whip is kangaroo from core to the last overlay.
When I had that whip in my hands, I was a bit sceptical.
No lead in the handle…? This whip is light compared
to the whips which have lead, but not too light, so I was
concerned about how it would perform. In fact I was confused
when I cracked it the first time. It rolled out smooth like
silk and satin. The whip has the perfect balance without lead.
I was told it’s all a matter of the braiding; the stretching,
how the bolsters are cut and how far out the plaited bellies
are taken in the thong etc. It’s amazing how one can
create such a superb balance without any lead.
The whip has the look of a 30 year old pattern. But is has
a state of the art inner. So it’s kind of the best of
both worlds. The look is classic. The inside - and the handling
- are from this century.
